Our Mediterranean Carbon Farming Program stems from the transition from a national-scale programme like Agroecology_Italy to one that spans the entire Mediterranean, rooted in the partnership of two companies: Alberami and Esférico.

This same logic of joining forces guides our work. For this reason, in addition to supporting farmers and cooperatives in the transition towards regenerative agriculture, and companies in their decarbonisation strategies, we are part of various projects funded by the European Union, which drive systemic changes in agri-food systems through joint work, information exchange, and the validation of strategies and methodologies carried out by different actors distributed across the continent.

But why is it important for us to participate in European projects?

Carbon farming is a young sector, currently under construction. Its rules, measurement methods, and markets are being defined right now, and this makes participating in these spaces a strategic decision for us, not just a matter of image. Some of the main reasons that drive us are:

• 1. Building networks: European projects bring together research centres, universities, cooperatives, technology companies, and carbon program developers like Radica. Working side-by-side with these actors allows us to benchmark our program against the most up-to-date scientific evidence, share knowledge by contributing the experience we have in the field with real farmers, and build solutions that adapt to the reality of European farmers.
• 2. Being at the forefront of technological innovation: Many of these projects include pilots on real farms, where new ways of measuring, reporting, and verifying soil carbon are tested (what is known in the carbon farming sector as MRV, platforms for monitoring, reporting, and verification). Being part of them allows us to access tools, refine, and improve our developments, something that directly benefits the farmers participating in our projects and programs.
• 3. Reaching the market with validated solutions and community participation: European projects allow us to transform scientific knowledge into practical and validated solutions through active collaboration between universities, research centres, companies, cooperatives, and farmers. Through participatory studies, field pilots, workshops, and co-creation processes, we evaluate the real impact of new methodologies, gather the needs of the farming community, and adapt tools to diverse productive contexts, ensuring that innovation is developed together with those who will implement it.

This integration not only prevents technology from being born in isolation but also strengthens the transparency, robustness, and reliability of the entire carbon farming ecosystem in Europe, increasing the value of the credits generated by our farmers in the market.

For all this and more, we are part of several European consortia:

CREDIBLE 2. Acts as the European meeting point between research, the private sector, and administration to accelerate carbon farming. Its goal is to reach a consensus on best practices for soil sequestration, certify their real results, and consolidate key events in the sector such as the European Carbon Farming Summit. In this context, Radica acts as a bridge between research centres and the business community to test and validate solutions focused on the shared use of climate data.

FIREFLIES. Seeks to integrate biodiversity restoration into farmers' daily decisions. Through five pilot regions in Europe, it combines local knowledge with monitoring technologies to co-design sustainable practices, measure their impact (ecological, agronomic, and economic), and identify the necessary support to facilitate their adoption. Radica demonstrates the direct impact of carbon sequestration on key variables such as biodiversity and the water cycle, in addition to operationally managing the pilot project in Piana dei Monumentali, Italy.

GUARDIANS. This project seeks to reduce the technological gap between small and medium-sized farms and large producers, through digital solutions adapted to their needs at an affordable cost. It is being tested on farms in Spain, Italy, Sweden, and the Czech Republic, with cooperatives as key players to scale these solutions to more farmers. GUARDIANS is aligned with the European Green Deal and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.

In this project, Radica acts as a technology provider; we have developed DIGIBIO, an application that helps farmers understand the role of biodiversity on their farm and integrate it into daily business management decisions, in order to maximise ecological benefits.

MARVIC. Focuses on developing a harmonised framework adapted to the context for Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems for carbon sequestration in European agriculture. Its objective is to build trust in carbon farming schemes by aligning them with European certification regulations, reducing administrative burden, and optimising the cost-precision relationship based on the particularities of each territory and land use type. Here, Radica, through Esférico, one of its founders, develops technological solutions applied to carbon monitoring on farms with woody crops.

CAFAMORE. It is framed within the European Union's Soil Mission, working to boost confidence in carbon markets on a European scale by establishing a plot-level monitoring system, a spatially explicit registry, and a robust digital infrastructure. Its main objective is to offer a transparent, accurate, and cost-effective Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system, building the standardised tools and methodologies needed to accelerate the transition towards sustainable agriculture. In this case, Radica manages the national-level pilot in Spain to test and validate carbon farming solutions adapted to the territorial context under real conditions.

We participate in each of these projects with the purpose of developing solutions adapted to the farmer's needs. Being part of these European initiatives allows us to accelerate learning, share key knowledge with the sector, and directly transfer all this value to the farmers and cooperatives that are part of our Program.
