Trees field

What's actually in the ground.

Two projects in Puglia. One operational programme proving the methodology works at scale. One conservation project proving what the methodology can save.

Two distinct projects

Operational programme

AgroEcology_Italy

Italy's first soil carbon project under an ICROA-endorsed standard.

25,000+ hectares under management. 650+ farmers enrolled. 84,000 tCO₂e verified for 2024–25. The operational base for everything Radica does and the proof that VM0042-grade soil carbon works at scale on Mediterranean permanent crops.

Conservation project

Guardians of Time

Protecting 2.5 million olive trees in the Piana degli Ulivi Monumentali.

A regenerative conservation programme protecting 300,000 registered monumental olive trees, some over 3,000 years old, facing existential threat from Xylella, fungal pathogens, and climate stress. Two operational removal streams (soil carbon and biochar), an avoidance pathway in development, 75% of revenues to agricultural families.

110,000–145,000 tCO₂/yr removal

€264–415M to ag families

Two projects, two different things to prove.

AgroEcology_Italy is the operational base. It exists to prove that soil carbon at landscape scale, on Mediterranean permanent crops, can be measured rigorously, verified independently, and traded credibly. It's where the MRV runs every day, where the producer relationships sit, and where the methodology is exercised across thousands of hectares.

Guardians of Time is the conservation case. It exists to prove that the same methodology, applied to a specific endangered landscape, can mobilise the capital that paper-based legal protection cannot. Regional Law 14/2007 protects monumental olive trees. It does not fund their conservation. Carbon finance does.

How projects relate to the three services.

Both projects supply EACs. Companies sourcing Mediterranean ingredients (olive oil, durum, tomato) can generate EACs anchored in the AgroEcology producer network or, for olive oil specifically, in the Guardians of Time supply shed.

Primary Data

AgroEcology_Italy is the source. Field-level carbon intensity, water, and biodiversity data flow from the AgroEcology MRV system.

Both projects supply credits. AgroEcology_Italy provides ICR-registered, BeZero BBB removals from the broader programme. Guardians of Time provides flagship conservation credits — a combination of avoidance credits and removals (soil carbon and biochar) at premium pricing.
