Agroecology Italy

Italy's first ICROA-endorsed soil carbon project

AgroEcology_Italy

Soil-based carbon removals from Mediterranean permanent crops. The operational base for Radica's three services and the proof that VM0042-grade soil carbon works at scale in Italy.

The work

Regenerative practice across Mediterranean permanent crops.

AgroEcology_Italy enrols Mediterranean producers, primarily olive growers, expanding into durum wheat, vineyard, and hazelnut, into a coordinated regenerative programme. Practices are documented per producer, outcomes are measured at field level, and the work is verified annually under VM0042.

Methodology and verification

Built for institutional scrutiny.

01) VM0042 v1.1

Verra-aligned soil carbon quantification methodology, with the VMD0053 companion module for model calibration and uncertainty. The 2024–25 verified vintage was quantified under VM0042 v1.1; the programme is transitioning to v2.1 for forthcoming vintages.

02) ICR registry, ICROA-endorsed

Italy's first soil carbon project developed under an ICROA-endorsed standard. Full third-party verification, public issuance records, transparent retirement tracking and ICR's complimentary buyer-side risk assessment included at no additional cost.

03) BeZero BBB rating

Independent third-party carbon rating. In BeZero's rated, post-issuance set, AgroEcology_Italy is one of the highest-rated soil-related agricultural projects in the world and the only European project at that level. (As of May/2026]; BeZero rated set).

04) Verified by Earthood

Independent VVB. Project verifications and ISO 14064-2 audits.

Inventory and access

Available now and into the pipeline.

50,000 tCO₂e

3.1M tCO₂e

Pricing from €60/tCO₂e for smaller volumes, with multi-year and large-volume commitments priced below.

Spot, forward offtake, and strategic / first-look structures available.

How buyers are protected

Three layers between the buyer and reversal risk.

20% buffer pool contribution

Sized against project-specific risk profile, higher than standard soil projects given the Xylella context. Pooled across the ICR programme to shield buyers from localised reversal.

Replacement guarantee

If a reversal occurs and the buffer is insufficient, Radica contractually replaces from future vintages within 24 months or refunds the purchase price.

Sentinel monitoring

Unbroken telemetry. Sentinel-2 NDVI loss triggers a physical field investigation within 30 days.

From prospect to verified credit

Four gates. Documented at every stage.

Gate 1

Prospect & co-op engagement

Co-op-led farmer identification across target geographies (Puglia, Sicily, Spain). Protocol fit assessment. Output: qualified prospect list.

Gate 2

LOI & baseline scoping

Letter of intent secured. Cadastral mapping, soil typology assessment, indicative carbon potential modelled. Output: pre-enrolled volume estimate.

Gate 3

Contract & baseline sampling

15-year civil law agreement recorded against cadastral parcel. Physical lab sampling complete. Output: contracted hectares and baseline SOC.

Gate 4

Verification & issuance

Year-1 protocol verified by VVB. ISO 14064 audit. Output: issued, on-registry credits.

Transparency note: Quarterly enrolment reports provided under MNDA. Forward volumes are pipeline estimates, we do not pre-sell unverified credits.

Italy's only soil carbon project under an ICROA-endorsed standard.

Operational today. Verified, rated, and growing.
